Jana Haragalova, Integrative Arts Psychotherapist

A Safe, Creative Space for Personal Discovery and Healing | Integrative Therapy & Professional Supervision

About me

I believe people enter therapy because they want positive change and therapy can empower them to make that change happen, starting from within, with a journey of personal discovery. Embarking on this journey of potential transformation could however feel vulnerable and uncertain. Whether it is confusion, unease, pain or deep despair that brings you to therapy you would be warmly welcome. I will provide a supportive, confidential and non judgmental environment where you feel listened to and able to bring whatever you wish to work on whether it is relationship difficulties, anxiety, life/work stress, identity crisis or impact of traumatic past.

I strongly believe in clients’ ownership of therapy. I provide a creative environment and guidance to the place where you can discover your own answers to the questions and problems which trouble you. There is no 'one-size-fits-all' and by having a range of perspectives to draw on, I am better equipped to work with the specific needs of each individual person. Each person is different and deserves to be fully met and respected for their diversity and uniqueness.

My Approach.

I practice Integrative Psychotherapy. This is a multi-model approach, combining various schools of thought and therapy practice. I resonate with the Gestalt psychotherapy approach emphasizing the continuous creative process in therapy and the importance of contact and dialogue in the present moment. My approach is also informed by the Attachment theory and the understanding of the importance of our early family relationships.

I offer an opportunity for the client to reflect creatively on their issues. I believe that creativity can provide a new perspective on old problems and patterns, it can help to express feelings deeply buried, forgotten or not easily understood and can introduce flow to the areas where the client feels stuck. I often invite clients to use different art media in the session – draw/paint, sandtray figures, clay, movement, and sound. No previous experience with the arts is necessary. This is always an open invitation, not a requirement.

I am a trauma informed therapist, sensitive to the impact of traumatic experiences clients may bring to therapy. I use aspects of trauma psychoeducation to empower clients to work through difficult and life changing experiences.

I have experience working with clients with diverse issues in a variety of settings including NHS mental health services, community counselling services and specialist services for survivors of sexual violence and abuse.

I am also qualified and experienced supervisor. I offer a creative and active approach to supervision to support your professional therapeutic practice. Alongside the traditional verbal and relational supervision reflections and discussions I would invite you to use visual arts, drama therapy techniques or movement and embodiment to help you access clarity, insight and direction for your client-based work and your wider professional development journey. You do not have to be an art therapist to benefit from creative supervision. Openness to reflect in new ways and curiosity about your own practice is however essential.

Supervision sessions are for psychotherapists, counsellors and other mental health professionals working therapeutically with clients.
