Dr Motchila Innocente, Chartered Clinical Psychologist
Experienced therapy for trauma, ADHD, autism, burnout and menopause
About me
People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be dealing with stress or difficult life events and finding that your usual ways of coping are no longer enough. Or perhaps you've spent years appearing to cope on the outside while feeling overwhelmed, exhausted or disconnected inside. You may be experiencing longstanding difficulties in your relationships, low self confidence, or struggling with the lasting effects of traumatic experiences.
Often, the ways we've learned to cope have helped us get through difficult experiences, even if they're no longer serving us. Therapy offers a chance to understand those patterns with curiosity and compassion, rather than self-judgement.
Whatever has led you to seek therapy, you don't have to make sense of it on your own. I bring over 20 years' experience working in adult mental health, across the NHS and private practice, supporting people through anxiety, depression, trauma, burnout, low self-esteem, and major life transitions and losses.
I have extensive experience supporting neurodivergent adults, including autistic adults and adults with ADHD and dyslexia. I offer therapy that is flexible and adapted to different ways of thinking, communicating and experiencing the world, creating a space that feels respectful and validating. My other specialist interests include supporting people through the challenges of perimenopause and menopause, and working with those who struggle with harsh internal standards and self-criticism.
I know that reaching out for therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’ve had difficult experiences in the past or find it hard to trust or open up. My aim is to create a space where you can bring the parts of yourself you've had to hide or carry alone. Building a trusting therapeutic relationship is central to my work, providing a foundation for meaningful and lasting change.
I take time to understand not only what has brought you to therapy, but also how your relationships, life experiences, culture and identity have shaped the way you see yourself, relate to others, and respond to life's challenges. Developing this understanding together helps us make sense of the difficulties you're experiencing and identify ways of moving forward that feel meaningful and sustainable. My hope is that therapy offers not only relief from current difficulties, but also a deeper understanding of yourself, greater self-compassion, and changes that continue long after therapy has ended.
